JOY, love, CONNECTION
I was born and raised in Paris. I grew up as the youngest child of South Korean immigrants who moved to Germany in the 70s for a better life. Eventually, they settled in France.
In a working-class family, creativity wasn't always embraced, but I was fortunate enough to study art and graphic design. Drawing has been my lifeline since childhood. It’s a sanctuary, a place where I could escape my shyness, life's challenges and immerse myself in its beauty.
While 효정 (Hyo-Jeung) is my given name, I've been known as Yoyo. It's a nickname that's easy to remember and pronounce, but it's not the only name I've used. In an attempt to fit in and avoid racism or discrimination, my parents picked a French name: Julie. I was Julie for a long time, but it never truly represented my heritage or who I am.
In 2010, I wanted to move to Berlin for a few months but a change of plans led me to London and it was in this city of creativity, diversity, and openness that my career took off as a graphic designer and illustrator.
I have a passion for music since my teenage years and it played a major role in nourishing my creative vision. My obsession started with blues, rockabilly, punk & post-punk, electronic music but nowadays I listen to anything, depending on my mood.
In 2016, I discovered tattooing as an outlet for my art, and my world changed. During a challenging time in my life, tattooing gave me the space to sit back, reflect, and reassess my priorities. It was a grounding and comforting experience that allowed me to express myself like never before. Thus, “pokyopokyo” was born, a name inspired by a combination of my nickname and the word “poke.”
Creating and sharing my art has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for the wonderful people I've met along the way. As a creative, I believe that my experiences and influences can enrich the lives of others and making people feel good make me happy.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my story, and I look forward to sharing my art with you.

There is a lot of thoughts and preparation involved in every projects I take on.
Outside a tattoo appointment, most of my time is spent working on new ideas, editing drawings, replying emails, adding some contents on social medias, work on some illustration projects. I also create, sell & ship some merchandising.
